A Condensed Photo History of Antigo Visual Arts
Allen Benes at Work
AVA Artist Allen Benes at home in his workshop. Antigo artist Allen Benes took home the People's Choice award for his woodcarving "Group of Crappies" at Antigo Visual Arts (AVA) 2018 Starved for Spring show reception. In addition to his People's Choice ribbon Benes received a check from AVA for $50. The Starved for Spring show was the first AVA show Benes had entered. His carving is a table setting of three crappies mounted on a gnarled branch. They are hand-carved and painted with acrylic paint. Other artists whose work received multiple People's Choice votes are Danna Gabriel, Paul Gregurich, Robin Gardner, Linda Robinson, and Karen Aulik Now. Twenty-seven artists entered a total of 84 pieces making the 2018 Starved for Spring show the largest AVA judged show up to that point.
